  • Herbal teas are an important aspect of healing. Pure water is an integral facet of a balanced herbal tea. Proper preparation uses distilled, filtered, spring, or well water. Distilled water is the best medium for drawing out the therapeutic elements of the herbs, as it a more neutral medium. It is not recommended to use distilled water that has been stored in plastic jugs in which the plastic contains xenoestrogens, substances that mirror the effects of endogenous estrogen, which may be a carcinogenic risk & may contribute to disorders of the reproductive system. Plastic also transmits a plastic flavor to the water. Municipal tap water containing chlorine, fluoride, & other chemicals should also be avoided.

Do not prepare healing tea in aluminum or copper kitchenware, as these materials tend to deteriorate & may also have neurotoxic effects on the body. The best choices for tea kettles & related equipment are cast iron, glass, & stainless steel.
